Aaliyah Chavez named 2024-2025 MaxPreps National Girls Basketball Player of the Year

1:11
A total of four players finished the 2025 high school girls basketball season with over 4,000 career points, including a pair of juniors who figure to battle for the all-time lead in Minnesota next year.
Maddyn Greenway
of
Providence Academy (Plymouth)
ended the season with 4,454 career points in five varsity seasons while
Tori Oehrlein
of
Crosby-Ironton (Crosby)
is just 27 points behind at 4,427. Both will be shooting to claim the career scoring lead in the Gopher State, which is currently held by Rebekah Dahlman of
Braham
with 5,060 points from 2008-13.
Greenway and Oehrlein actually rank No. 3 and 4 all-time in the state behind Dahlman and 2025 graduate
Addison Mack
of
Minnehaha Academy (Minneapolis)
, who finished the past season with 4,687 points.
The highest-scoring player coming out of the 2024-25 campaign, however, was MaxPreps National Player of the Year
Aaliyah Chavez
of
Monterey (Lubbock, Texas)
, who scored 4,796 points. She finishes second all-time in Texas behind Adrian McGowen of
Goodrich
with 5,424 points.
MaxPreps has compiled a list of over 170 players who played in 2024-25 who have gone over 2,000 career points. While Chavez is the top senior on the list and Greenway is the top junior,
Morgan Mathiowetz
of
Sleepy Eye/St. Mary's (Sleepy Eye, Minn.)
is the top sophomore with 2,513 points and
Chloe Johnson
of
Marshall (Duluth, Minn.)
is the top freshman with 2,189 points. It should be noted that Minnesota allows players to begin varsity competition in seventh grade and plays 18-minute halves instead of eight minute quarters.
A total of six MaxPreps All-Americans made the scoring list with
Sienna Betts
of
Grandview (Aurora, Colo.)
,
Jazzy Davidson
of
Clackamas (Ore.)
,
Addison Deal
of
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.)
,
Mia Pauldo
of
Morris Catholic (Denville, N.J.)
,
Emilee Skinner
of
Ridgeline (Millville, Utah)
and
Nyla Brooks
of
Bishop Ireton (Alexandria, Va.)
joining Chavez.
Sources for the list include the MaxPreps database, the Minnesota High School Basketball Records website, state association websites, internet searches and e-mails to coaches.
