The Berkeley Stags waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They took down Cane Bay 42-28. Given Berkeley's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Cane Bay is ranked 168th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Berkeley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Imani Levey led the charge by scoring 11 points along with five rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Amani Mccray, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Several Cobras players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was LaChar Lawrence, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kimora Carmichael, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Cane Bay smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berkeley only pulled down four offensive rebounds.
Berkeley's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4. As for Cane Bay, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost nine of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.
Berkeley will be playing in front of their home fans against Goose Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Goose Creek will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. Cane Bay on the road again on Tuesday and play against Wando at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Hopefully Wando focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Saturday.
