Volleyball Recap: Thomas County Central Starts Season with Victory at Home

Thomas County Central gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Pierce County Bears 2-1. For the Yellow Jackets, this counts as revenge for the 2-0 victory the Bears walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2023.

Thomas County Central had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The final score came out to 20-25, 25-21, 17-15.

Christian Nixon paced Thomas County Central's offense, picking up seven kills. Nixon got some help from Kate Henson and her 13 assists. Henson was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.

Coincidentally, Thomas County Central and Pierce County will both be playing Valdosta the next time they take the court. The Bears will head out to face the Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Yellow Jackets will play them later in the day, at 6:30 p.m.
