Basketball Game Preview: C.A. Johnson Hornets vs. Lamar Silver Foxes

The C.A. Johnson Hornets will take on the Lamar Silver Foxes at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

C.A. Johnson saw some tournament action on Sunday. They came up short against South Pointe, falling 71-51. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite their defeat, C.A. Johnson saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Milton McCray, who went 9 for 15 on his way to 28 points in addition to five rebounds and three blocks, was perhaps the best of all. McCray has been hot for a while, having posted two or more blocks the last ten times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiassiac Germany, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 boards.

Meanwhile, Lamar had to suffer through a 67-40 loss at the hands of Central. The loss continues a trend for the Silver Foxes in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now lost three in a row.

Like Lamar, they lost despite seeing results from several players. Messiah Sims led the charge by going 6 of 9 on his way to 13 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lamont Williams, who posted six points along with 12 boards and three blocks.

Even though they lost, Lamar smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matchups.

C.A. Johnson's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Lamar, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.

Everything came up roses for C.A. Johnson against Lamar in their previous meeting back in January of 2016, as the squad secured a 69-27 win. Does C.A. Johnson have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lamar turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
