Leading Tucumcari to victory were July Lafferty and Caylee Benavidez. Lafferty scored 18 points along with nine steals and eight rebounds, while Benavidez scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. Benavidez hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. Kirksey Smith was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Tucumcari's victory bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Capitan, they have fallen quite a ways from their 23-7 record last season and are now at 4-9.
Tucumcari and Estancia will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 13th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Estancia is on a five-game streak of home wins, Tucumcari a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
