The Centennial Bulldogs will be taking part in a tournament against the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Centennial's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Chatfield with a sharp 11-0 victory. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by seven runs or more this season.
Jake Turner made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.
In other batting news, Tyler Jackson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples and five RBI. That's the most triples he has posted since back in February of 2024.
Centennial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mountain Vista). Everything went their way against Palo Verde on Wednesday as Mountain Vista made off with an 11-1 win. With that victory, the Golden Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Sawyer Tipton tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
At the plate, Mountain Vista let Chase Brock and Alex King run wild. Brock scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while King scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Cruz Martinez, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Centennial is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. The win got Mountain Vista back to even at 2-2.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Centennial hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like Mountain Vista struggles in that department as they've averaged .341. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
