The Rio Vista Rams had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They breezed by Highlands at home to the tune of 52-18. The result was nothing new for Rio Vista, who have now won four contests by 34 points or more so far this season.
Rio Vista's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marco Carrillo, who rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. Matthew Bodle was another key contributor, rushing for 106 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Highlands to a paltry 205 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Rio Vista's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Nathan Frisbie and his three sacks.
Despite the defeat, Highlands saw an underclassman step up: Walter Lewis rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries.
Rio Vista's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-2. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 39 points. As for Highlands, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Rio Vista will head out on the road to face off against San Juan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. San Juan is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for Highlands, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Vacaville Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
