In what's become a running theme this season, the Harlan Hawks gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. Everything went their way against Stevens as Harlan made off with a 68-42 victory. Given Harlan's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while Stevens is ranked 594th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Harlan found their leader in underclassman Ruhama Salyers, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Salyers scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexa Romero, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Stevens lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mya Guzman. Despite the final result, she scored 18 points. Andra Stokes was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Harlan is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season. As for Stevens, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost 12 of their last 14 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-18 record this season.
Harlan will head out on the road to face off against Sotomayor at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sotomayor will be looking to keep their ten-game home win streak alive. Stevens will take on Taft at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Taft is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.
