Given Pusch Ridge Christian Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while Canyon del Oro is ranked 212th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pusch Ridge Christian Academy was led to victory by Sedona Dietrich and Noelle Sunukjian. Dietrich scored 12 points along with three blocks, while Sunukjian scored 13 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Those three blocks set a new season-high mark for Dietrich. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicole NJoroge, who scored 12 points.
Canyon del Oro lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Madisen Fleury, who scored 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fleury has scored all season. Halie Fuller was another key contributor, scoring two points along with nine rebounds and five steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for Pusch Ridge Christian Academy and bumps their season record up to 6-4. As for Canyon del Oro, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pusch Ridge Christian Academy will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Thatcher at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Canyon del Oro won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Sahuarita at 6:00 p.m. on December 8th. Sahuarita is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
