Basketball Recap: Clark's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Clark won the last time they faced SA Roosevelt and things went their way on Friday too. The Clark Cougars took down the SA Roosevelt Rough Riders 62-43. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while the Rough Riders are ranked 264th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Clark's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kristian Burgan led the charge by going 6 of 11 on his way to 16 points and eight rebounds. That's the most points Burgan has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Flemons, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 15 points.

Despite the loss, SA Roosevelt had strong showings from Shai Markajani, who went 8 of 15 on his way to 20 points, and Carmelo Martinez, who posted nine points and six rebounds. The contest was Markajani's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Demarcus Robinson, who had nine points.

The victory (which was Clark's third in a row) raised their record to 17-6. As for SA Roosevelt, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.

Clark will face off against Reagan at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Clark has won three straight at home, while Reagan won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for SA Roosevelt, they will challenge Brandeis at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Brandeis is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.8 points per game this season.
