The Pueblo Centennial Bulldogs lost against the Pueblo County Hornets back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Pueblo Centennial took a hard 62-48 fall against Pueblo County.
Pueblo Centennial lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Shon West, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Jeffrey Valdez was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds.
Pueblo Centennial struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Pueblo County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Johnathan Gonzales led the charge by scoring 18 points along with six rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Mauro, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Pueblo Centennial's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 6-6. As for Pueblo County, their win bumped their record up to 9-4.
Pueblo Centennial will head out on the road to challenge Pueblo South at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Pueblo South knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Pueblo Centennial likes a good challenge. As for Pueblo County, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Pueblo Central at 7:30 p.m. Pueblo Central is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 57.8 points per game.
