The St. Joseph Central Catholic Crimson Streaks will face off against the Calvert Senecas at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. St. Joseph Central Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
St. Joseph Central Catholic is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Danbury just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Lakers by a score of 5-4.
Stella Thomas was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two doubles. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Avery Naderer was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Calvert ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Lakota 10-9. The victory was nothing new for the Senecas as they're now sitting on five straight.
Addie Endicott was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Gracie Miller was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Calvert pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for St. Joseph Central Catholic, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. St. Joseph Central Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .368. However, it's not like Calvert struggles in that department as they've averaged .404. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went St. Joseph Central Catholic's way against Calvert in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as St. Joseph Central Catholic made off with a 14-3 win. Do the Crimson Streaks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Senecas turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
