Highland and Rigby are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Rams will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against the Trojans at 3:30 p.m. Highland hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.
Highland is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Thunder Ridge, who was ranked third at the time (Highland was ranked 15th). The Rams lost 7-1 to the Titans on Friday.
Reece Bybee was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. Janae Whitehead also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rigby). They had just enough and edged out Blackfoot 16-14. The victory was some much needed relief for the Trojans as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Madison Jensen was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Samantha Bishop, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Rigby kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Highland's loss dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Rigby, their win bumped their record up to 6-8.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Highland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Rigby struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Highland couldn't quite get it done against Rigby in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 11-7. Will the Rams have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
