Monticello is 8-2 against Hamburg since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Billies will square off against the Lions at 5:00 p.m. Monticello will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
On Monday, Monticello was able to grind out a solid win over Sheridan, taking the game 8-3.
Addi Frazer was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Libby Kingston was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Macey Stell, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Monticello lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hamburg, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They put the hurt on Camden Fairview with a sharp 8-0 victory on Monday. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Like Monticello, Hamburg also got a great game from a two-way player: M Hammond. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave Hammond a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on L McKelvey, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. E Tubbs was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Monticello's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Hamburg, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 3-9.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Monticello hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .403. However, it's not like Hamburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Monticello beat Hamburg 10-5 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Billies since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
