The Rustburg Red Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Liberty Minutemen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rustburg is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
Even though Rustburg has not done well against Amherst County recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Rustburg managed a 40-35 win over Amherst County. That's two games straight that Rustburg has won by exactly five points.
Rustburg got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Olivia Tyree out in front who scored 12 points. Haven Grinstead was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Meanwhile, Liberty earned a 58-45 win over Heritage on Tuesday. Given Liberty's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 67th, while Heritage is ranked 320th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Rustburg's record is now 11-9. As for Liberty, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-5.
Rustburg came up short against Liberty in their previous meeting back in January, falling 39-34. Can Rustburg avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
