Softball Recap: Commerce Wins Going Away Against Springfield Renaissance

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pathfinder RVT, Commerce was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They put the hurt on Springfield Renaissance with a sharp 19-10 victory. The Red Raiders haven't had any issues with Springfield Renaissance recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Adrianna Medina made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 15 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up eight earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.8 strikeouts per game. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI.

In other batting news, Vanessa Rios and Bella Stenta did most of the damage at the plate: Rios went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI, while Stenta got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, five runs, and one RBI. Rios has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Melany Pineda also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.

Commerce always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .614. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Springfield Renaissance only posted an OBP of .378.

Commerce now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Springfield Renaissance, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Commerce will square off against Belchertown at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Springfield Renaissance, they will take on Pathfinder RVT at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
