Daleville hasn't had much luck against Eastern Hancock recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Broncos will head out on the road to face off against the Royals at 5:30 p.m. Daleville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.2 runs per game this season.
Daleville proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by ten) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Blackford 4-3. The victory was nothing new for the Broncos as they're now sitting on three straight.
Emily Simmons made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Miley Womack was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Eastern Hancock made sure to put some runs up on the board against Wapahani on Thursday. The Royals' pitchers stepped up to hand the Raiders an 18-0 shutout. The game marked the Royals' most dominant win of the season so far.
Like Daleville, Eastern Hancock also got a great game from a two-way player: McKenna Stewart. On the mound, Stewart tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Nieko Engleking pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. At bat, Stewart went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double, while Engleking went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Stewart a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emree Truitt, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Brooklynn Headlee was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
Eastern Hancock always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Eastern Hancock pushed their record up to 3-5 with the victory, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Daleville, their record is now 4-1.
Eastern Hancock's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Daleville has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Eastern Hancock, though, as they've been averaging 11.2 hits. Given Daleville's sizable advantage in that area, the Royals will need to find a way to close that gap.
Daleville might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from Eastern Hancock in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Broncos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
