Anson and Parkwood are an even 3-3 against one another since September of 2015, but not for long. The Bearcats will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Wolf Pack at 7:00 p.m. Anson is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
Anson is headed into the matchup having just suffered their closest loss since August 22nd on Friday. They fell just short of Forest Hills by a score of 14-12. While losing is never fun, the Bearcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 267th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 112th).
Although Anson took the loss, they still got scores from Tasean Harris and Cordarrius Bivens.
Meanwhile, Parkwood came into Friday's game having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past West Stanly 45-42. The Wolf Pack's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Anson better keep an eye on Smith Barlowe. He was instrumental in Parkwood's win, throwing for 285 yards and five TDs, while also rushing for 44 yards. Barlowe is becoming a predictor of the Wolf Pack's success: when he posts at least three passing touchdowns the team is 2-1 (and 0-6 when he doesn't). Parkwood's leading receiver Micah Davis was Barlowe's top target yet again, picking up 94 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Parkwood's run defense was locked in: West Stanly could only muster 2.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Ben Dyer for the heroic effort on defense: he. Parkwood's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 1.48 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed five on average over their last five games.
Parkwood's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-7. As for Anson, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.
Friday's contest might be decided in the trenches. Anson has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 276.6 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Parkwood, though, as they've been averaging only 63.7 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything came up roses for Anson against Parkwood when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 38-0 victory. Do the Bearcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolf Pack turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
