The St. Cloud Bulldogs suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of Timber Creek by a score of 41-39. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for St. Cloud in their matchups with Timber Creek: they've now lost six in a row.
Haley Collins and Danigzy Mantilla certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Collins dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds, while Mantilla scored 13 points. Mantilla continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played.
Timber Creek was led to victory by Isabella Spence and Karishma Ortiz. Spence scored four points along with six assists and five rebounds, while Ortiz scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Serene Exalant, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and three steals.
St. Cloud's defeat dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Timber Creek, they pushed their record up to 11-8 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Cloud's road trip will continue as they head out to face Merritt Island Christian at 5:00 p.m. on January 13th. Merritt Island Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 204th, while St. Cloud is ranked 73rd). As for Timber Creek, they will head out on the road to challenge Bishop Moore at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bishop Moore will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
