The Weslaco Panthers will take on the Floresville Tigers/Jaguars at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Weslaco comes in on seven and Floresville on three.
Weslaco proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by eight) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Laredo LBJ 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since May 11, 2024.

Isaiah Garza spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
At the plate, Weslaco saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gael Villareal, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Floresville). They never let Gonzales get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Saturday. With that win, the Tigers/Jaguars brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Layton Latka and Emmett Nettles did most of the damage at the plate: Latka scored two runs while going 3-for-3, while Nettles scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Floresville is undefeated when Nettles posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Aden Flores was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Floresville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in four consecutive matches.
Weslaco pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Floresville, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Weslaco has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .463. However, it's not like Floresville struggles in that department as they've averaged .505. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
