MacKenzie Hady spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addison Bowe, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna Lubash, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Maumee made easy work of Rogers on Thursday and carried off an 18-2 victory.
Hannah Ruiz and Julia Coutcher made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Ruiz tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Meanwhile, Coutcher pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, Ruiz went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double, while Coutcher got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and one double. That's the most runs Coutcher has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Maumee let Autumn Gugger and Brynn Maier run wild. Gugger got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and one triple, while Maier went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four runs gave Gugger a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jamie Brooks, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Maumee was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .769. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in five consecutive matches.
Eastwood has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Maumee, their victory bumped their record up to 14-10.
Eastwood came out on top in a nail-biter against Maumee when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 6-5. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
