The Wyoming East Warriors will head out to face off against the Mingo Central Miners at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Wyoming East's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Mingo Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Wyoming East will bounce into Saturday's match after beating Oak Hill, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Warriors came out on top against the Red Devils by a score of 8-5 on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors.
Talan Muscari was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Miken Smyth was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mingo Central). They blew past Jenkins 18-1 on Thursday. The Miners not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 10, 2024 (when they won 21-2).
Dylan Vance made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 16 over five innings pitched. Those 16 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Mingo Central let Keziah Joplin and Aaron Blankenship run wild. Joplin went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Blankenship went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Joplin a new career-high. Noah Newsome also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Mingo Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .611. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Wyoming East's record now sits at 12-3. As for Mingo Central, their record is now 2-8.
Wyoming East took their win against Mingo Central when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 8-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
