Stanwood is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Ballard is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Spartans will welcome the Beavers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Stanwood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Stanwood will bounce into Monday's match after beating Lake Stevens, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Spartans walked away with an 8-5 victory over the Vikings on Friday.
The team relied heavily on Rubi Lopez, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Olivia Dahl was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Meanwhile, Ballard had just enough and edged out Roosevelt 5-4 on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Beavers have won by just one run.
Colette Howren made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Howren was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.
Howren wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Wren Wald, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Another was Katie Davis, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Ballard is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Stanwood, their victory bumped their record up to 11-2.
Stanwood's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Spartans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Ballard, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Stanwood continue to outrun the ball?
Stanwood couldn't quite finish off Ballard in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Will the Spartans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
