The Lewis County Minutemen will venture away from home to square off against the Pendleton County Wildcat at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Lewis County comes in on three and Pendleton County on five.
While Lewis County's victory against Philip Barbour wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Lewis County sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over Philip Barbour on Thursday.
Lewis County's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brooklyn Oldaker, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Pendleton County got the win against East Fairmont on Friday by a conclusive 14-6. Considering the Wildcat have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Baylee Beachler and Susan Vincell made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Beachler pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Vincell struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. At the plate, Beachler scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Vincell went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Jessica Parker and Lizzie Alt did most of the damage at the plate: Parker went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Alt went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that Parker hit this season. Another player making a difference was Jenna Smith, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Pendleton County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Fairmont only posted a batting average of .269.
Pendleton County pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lewis County, their record is now 3-0.
Both Lewis County and Pendleton County just can't seem to miss. Lewis County has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Pendleton County struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.5 hits.
