Basketball Recap: Vacaville Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Vacaville hadn't done well against Wood recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Vacaville Bulldogs managed a 46-41 victory over the Wood Wildcats. For the Bulldogs, this counts as revenge for the 42-27 win the Wildcats walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Vacaville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Britain Gonzales led the charge by putting up four points along with 14 rebounds and three steals. Those 14 boards gave Gonzales a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lula Kifle, who posted eight points and seven rebounds.

Vacaville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 19 offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Despite the loss, Wood still got an impressive performance from Amiyah Murry, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 boards. Murry is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Ward, who put up eight points and five steals.

Vacaville's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-10. As for Wood, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vacaville will challenge Sacramento at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: La Ne Dunn and Kifle. As for Wood, they will square off against River City at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wood is facing River City at the right time seeing as River City is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
