Newton will venture away from home to challenge Woodville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Newton's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat New Waverly 54-0. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Newton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kendray Porter, who rushed for 91 yards and two scores on only ten carries, and also picked up 35 receiving yards and one touchdown. Deldrick Samuel also helped with two TDs in total.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Newton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 378 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 315 rushing yards in four consecutive contests.
Another reason for the win was Newton's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. New Waverly's QB won't forget Ivan Gatson anytime soon given he sacked him twice.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Woodville on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Warren out of the water with a 62-0 final score. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 474th, while the Warriors are ranked 1038th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Newton better keep an eye on Luke Babin. He was instrumental in Woodville's win, throwing for 288 yards and five touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave Babin a new career-high in passer rating (160.4). Gage Tolar was another key player, picking up 68 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Woodville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Saineko Mitchell and James Kelley. Mitchell has been hot recently, having posted at least one interception the last three times he's played. Luis Obregon was another major factor on D, picking up two sacks and making five total tackles.
Newton's record is now 5-1. As for Woodville, their record now sits at an identical 5-1.
The upcoming game will be a clash of competing strengths. Newton has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 294.2 rushing yards a game. Meanwhile, Woodville has preferred to attack from the air: they average 267 passing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
Newton took their win against Woodville in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 32-9 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for Newton since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
