After a string of eight wins, the Evansville Central Bears's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 51-39 to Bedford North Lawrence. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Evansville Central has scored all season.
Evansville Central lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Madalynn Shirley, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. The match was Shirley's third in a row with at least ten points. Mya Skelton was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Bedford North Lawrence found their leader in underclassman Miley Sherrill, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Chloe Spreen, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds.
Evansville Central's defeat dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Bedford North Lawrence, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season.
Evansville Central will be playing in front of their home fans against Evansville Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Indiana (Evansville Memorial is ranked 34th, while Evansville Central is ranked 36th). As for Bedford North Lawrence, they will head out on the road to face off against Jennings County at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Jennings County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten games -- so hopefully Bedford North Lawrence likes a good challenge.
