The Porter Spartans will face off against the Longview Lobos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Porter comes in on three and Longview on nine.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Porter ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They snuck past Barbers Hill with a 27-21 victory.
Meanwhile, Longview put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Friday. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 43-0 win over West Mesquite. Longview pushed the score to 36-0 by the end of the third, a deficit West Mesquite had no chance of recovering from.
Longview's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mason Washington, who rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Washington was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 51 yards. Taylor Tatum was in the mix too, providing Longview with two touchdowns.
Porter pushed their record up to 7-3 with that win, which was their third straight at home. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Goose Creek Memorial and 2-8 Crosby (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 36.7% over those games). As for Longview, their victory bumped their record up to 9-1.
