Decatur Central is 8-2 against Plainfield since September of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Hawks will be playing at home against the Quakers at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Decatur Central sitting on three straight wins and Plainfield on five.
Decatur Central is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Mooresville: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Hawks blew the Pioneers out of the water with a 73-27 final score. With the Hawks ahead 52-14 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Decatur Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bo Polston, who threw for 82 yards and a pair of TDs, and also punched in one score on the ground. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Braylon Morris, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Decatur Central's run defense was locked in: Mooresville could only muster 1.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Morris for the heroic effort on defense: he. Decatur Central didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 12.3.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 19 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Bryson Hunter, who ran a punt back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a kickoff return touchdown from Morris.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Plainfield). They blew past Greenwood 49-14 on Friday. Given the Quakers' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while the Woodmen are ranked 109th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Decatur Central better keep an eye on Luke Starnes. He was instrumental in Plainfield's win, rushing for 208 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 13.0 yards per carry. Starnes showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 65 yards. Another player making a difference was Bryce Sebanc, who threw for 205 yards and four TDs while completing 73.3% of his passes.
Plainfield's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Decatur Central, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Decatur Central has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 301.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Plainfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 223.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Decatur Central against Plainfield in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 35-7 win. Do the Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Quakers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
