Basketball Recap: Union County Victorious

On Thursday, the Union County Yellowjackets beat the Mountain View Prep Stars 49-40. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Yellowjackets.

Eric Gray was his usual excellent self, going 8 for 13 on his way to 26 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Those 26 points gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Akeem Shaw, who posted six points and 16 rebounds.

Mountain View Prep's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Bryson Drummond, who put up 15 points, and Noah Byrd, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 13 points and five rebounds. Drummond has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ma'Ori Henderson, who had five points.

Union County's record is now 9-7. As for Mountain View Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Union County will take on Broome at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Broome has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 3-0 during that stretch of close contests. As for Mountain View Prep, they will square off against Chapman at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Chapman is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.2 points per game this season.
