Softball Game Preview: Elko Indians vs. Hug Hawks

Elko is a perfect 4-0 against Hug since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Elko Indians will take on the Hug Hawks at 10:00 a.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Elko has three straight victories, Hug has 24 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Elko is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Sparks 24-0 on Friday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Indians with their most commanding win of the season.

Taylor Hunton made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Kallista Crouch was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Vanessa Romero, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Elko kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Hug played against Dayton on Saturday and lost via forfeit.

Hug's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Elko, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Elko took their victory against Hug when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 26-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Elko since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
