Basketball Game Preview: Cherryvale Chargers vs. Erie Red Devils

Cherryvale is 1-9 against Erie since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Cherryvale Chargers will host the Erie Red Devils at 7:30 p.m. Erie took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Cherryvale, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Cherryvale turned things around against Bluestem on Friday. They blew past the Lions, posting a 57-17 win. That 40 point margin sets a new team best for the Chargers this season.

Landon Fox continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. The game was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. Bricen Raida was another key player, going 5 of 8 on his way to 14 points.

Meanwhile, Erie was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 54-27 loss at the hands of Humboldt. The matchup marked the Red Devils' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Loss or not, Erie got some senior leadership from Reid Duff and Michael Richenburg. Duff posted 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks, while Richenburg had five points and four steals. That's the most steals Richenburg has posted since back in February of 2024.

Erie's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Cherryvale, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 3-10.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Cherryvale has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.5 boards per game. However, it's not like Erie struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.2 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
