Basketball Recap: Hanahan Falls Despite Big Games from Wyatt Muirheid and Tripp Gallus

Hanahan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 42-38 heartbreaker at the hands of the Battery Creek Dolphins. The Hawks were not able to make up for their loss to the Dolphins from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Hanahan's loss came despite strong showings from Tripp Gallus and Wyatt Muirheid. Gallus posted four points and 12 boards, while Muirheid had 12 points. The dominant performance also gave Gallus a new career-high in assists (three).

Battery Creek was led to victory by Kelvin Willis and Ty'Juan Simmons. Willis put up ten points and seven rebounds, while Simmons scored ten points and five steals. Simmons is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Micheal Williams, who earned ten points and eight boards.

Hanahan's defeat dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Battery Creek, they moved to 9-8 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Oceanside Collegiate Academy the next time they take the court. Hanahan will head out to face Oceanside Collegiate Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Battery Creek will host them at 7:00 p.m. on January 28th.
