The Salpointe Catholic Lancers and the Cienega Bobcats will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Salpointe Catholic will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Salpointe Catholic posted their biggest win since November 30, 2023 on Thursday. They blew past Pueblo 56-16 at home. Given Salpointe Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while Pueblo is ranked 254th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Salpointe Catholic's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Caiden Johnson, who scored 11 points along with two steals, and Bobby Smith, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Rocco Valerdi, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Cienega on the road against Desert View on Tuesday as the squad secured a 76-36 win. The win made it back-to-back wins for Cienega.
Salpointe Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Cienega, their victory bumped their record up to 13-7.
