Oakwood has been on the road for four straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will be home for the holidays to greet the Penelope Wolverines at 7:15 p.m. Oakwood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1607th, while Penelope is ranked 493rd).
Last Tuesday, Oakwood came up short against Apple Springs and fell 40-33.
Meanwhile, Penelope came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Covington by a score of 48-36.
Penelope's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayden Schwarz, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and six blocks. Schwarz has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times he's played. Junior Castillo was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Oakwood has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. As for Penelope, they pushed their record up to 12-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Oakwood might still be hurting after the 57-37 loss they got from Penelope in their previous matchup back in January. Can Oakwood avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
