Basketball Game Preview: Evansville Central Bears vs. Evansville Reitz Panthers

The Evansville Central Bears will head out to challenge the Evansville Reitz Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Evansville Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.8 points per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Evansville Central got the win against Evansville North by a conclusive 54-34. The Bears have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 20 points or more this season.

Madalynn Shirley was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 18 rebounds. She is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last eight games she's played. Mya Skelton was another key player, going 6 for 14 on her way to 14 points and five assists.

Evansville Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Evansville North only racked up eight assists.

Meanwhile, Evansville Reitz's undefeated season came to an end after nine games on Monday. They fell just short of North Posey by a score of 54-51. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Panthers came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Vikings are ranked 107th).

Evansville Central's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. As for Evansville Reitz, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-1.

Evansville Central took their win against Evansville Reitz in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 59-37. The rematch might be a little tougher for Evansville Central since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
