The Yulee Hornets suffered their biggest defeat since November 27, 2023 on Friday. Their rough 56-32 defeat to Fernandina Beach might stick with them for a while. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Yulee has suffered against Fernandina Beach since January 14, 2019.
Several Hornets players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brooke Reid, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Reid has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Rheyna Hilton, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Fernandina Beach's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Julianna Miller led the charge by scoring 14 points along with six assists and six steals. Miller is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Savina Wells, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Yulee bumped their record down to 1-14 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Fernandina Beach, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Yulee will take on Clay at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Clay is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak. As for Fernandina Beach, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Westside at 6:00 p.m. on January 22nd. Westside is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
