The East Hickman County Eagles lost to the Wayne County Wildcats last Tuesday, but the East Hickman County Eagles didn't allow the Wayne County Wildcats the same satisfaction on Tuesday. East Hickman County came out on top against Wayne County by a score of 49-40. The victory was all the more spectacular given East Hickman County's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 281st, while Wayne County is ranked 125th).
Despite the loss, Wayne County saw an underclassman step up: Cayman Camfield scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. The game was Camfield's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Sayler Skelton, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Wayne County were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
East Hickman County's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.6 points per game. As for Wayne County, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Hickman County will take on Waverly Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Wayne County, they will head out on the road to face off against Richland at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Richland's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games.
