Laurel Christian has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. After both having extra time off, the Laurel Christian Lions and Discovery Christian will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Laurel Christian will be strutting in after a win while Discovery Christian will be coming in after a defeat.
Laurel Christian scored the most points they've had all season to find success last Thursday. They breezed by Prentiss Christian at home to the tune of 59-19. With Laurel Christian ahead 44-10 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Laurel Christian can attribute much of their success to Jaylyn Holifield, who scored 15 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Holifield has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Emma Risher, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Discovery Christian, who are still winless after their fifth match. They fell to Sylva Bay Academy 31-25. Discovery Christian has not had much luck with Sylva Bay Academy recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Laurel Christian's victory bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Discovery Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
Everything came up roses for Laurel Christian against Discovery Christian in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 39-12 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Laurel Christian since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
