The Pusch Ridge Christian Academy Lions were the 38-17 winner over the Douglas Bulldogs when they last played one another back in December of 2016, but their luck changed this time around. Pusch Ridge Christian Academy fell to Douglas 58-54.
Pusch Ridge Christian Academy's loss on Friday came despite strong showings from Nicole NJoroge and Sedona Dietrich. NJoroge scored ten points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Dietrich scored nine points along with six rebounds. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Noelle Sunukjian, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Douglas only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
Francia Rubio was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with seven assists and five rebounds for Douglas. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Scarlette Ruiz , who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Pusch Ridge Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Douglas, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season.
Pusch Ridge Christian Academy is on the road again on Friday and play against Thatcher at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. As for Douglas, they will be playing at home against Sahuarita at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sahuarita and Douglas are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
