Even though the Lyman Greyhounds scored an imposing 60 points on Wednesday, the Winter Springs Bears still came out on top. Winter Springs secured a 64-60 W over Lyman. Given Winter Springs' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 219th, while Lyman is ranked 457th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Winter Springs found their leader in underclassman Terell James, who scored 31 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which James has scored at least 25% of Winter Springs' points. Saige Carnegie was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Despite the loss, Lyman still got an impressive performance from Max Mattingly, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 17 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Lewis, who scored 11 points.
Even though they lost, Lyman were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
The win makes it two in a row for Winter Springs and bumps their season record up to 9-4. As for Lyman, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12.
Winter Springs won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hagerty at 6:00 p.m. on January 11th. Hagerty is on a four-game streak of home wins, Winter Springs a seven-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Lyman will take on Lake Brantley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lake Brantley is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
