Basketball Recap: East Burke Extends Road Winning Streak to 17

East Burke extended their winning streak to eight games thanks to a huge performance from Braelyn Stilwell. The East Burke Cavaliers managed a 74-69 victory over the Maiden Blue Devils on Friday thanks in part to Stilwell, who went 11 for 19 on her way to 34 points in addition to eight assists and six boards. The game was her 32nd in a row with at least ten points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Kara Brinkley, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 14 points and seven rebounds. She has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played.

Despite the loss, Maiden still got an impressive performance from Khiara Culliver, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Amelia Beal, who posted 11 points and six assists.

East Burke pushed their record up to 8-0 with the win, which was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 33.9 points. As for Maiden, their defeat ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-1.

East Burke didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 62-55 victory against Freedom on the 17th. Maiden and Hickory Christian Academy will compete for holiday cheer at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Maiden is facing Hickory Christian Academy at the right time seeing as Hickory Christian Academy is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
