The Lafayette Hornets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 21 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Aucilla Christian 54-18 at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Lafayette has managed all season.
Lafayette's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ella Hancock, who scored 12 points along with five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for her. Havyn Richardson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Despite the loss, Aucilla Christian still got an impressive performance from Riley Rutledge, who scored eight points. Rutledge scored a full 44.4% of Aucilla Christian's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Aucilla Christian struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Lafayette's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.7 points per game. As for Aucilla Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lafayette won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Bell at 6:30 p.m. on December 22, 2023. Hopefully Bell focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 36 last Friday. Aucilla Christian will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Ocala Christian at 5:00 p.m. on January 5th.
