The New Plymouth Pilgrims will face off against the Marsing Huskies at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
On Monday, New Plymouth sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Parma.
Blayk Cockerum was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs. He is becoming a predictor of New Plymouth's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 5-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaden Hawker, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run. He has become a key player for New Plymouth: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Garcia, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Marsing, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Nampa Christian 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Huskies have posted since April 17, 2024.
Luke Steinmeyer was excellent, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Jace Chadez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Marsing's win bumped their record up to 12-6. As for New Plymouth, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-9.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. New Plymouth has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .461. However, it's not like Marsing struggles in that department as they've averaged .486. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
New Plymouth suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Marsing in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Will the Pilgrims have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
