The Economedes Jaguars were the 41-25 winner over the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Bears when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Economedes fell 43-31 to Pharr-San Juan-Alamo on Friday. Economedes found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 17 to 6 on offense.
Nirel Salinas and Gabriela Maldonado certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Salinas scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, while Maldonado scored seven points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Salinas has scored all season.
It was another big night for Jackie Molina, who scored 23 points along with seven steals and five rebounds for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo. Molina has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was AVA CASTILLO, who scored six points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Economedes has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-17.
Economedes will take on Edinburg at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Averaging 70.4 so far this season, Edinburg's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Economedes better be ready for a challenge. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, they will be playing at home against La Joya at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully La Joya focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Friday.
