Basketball Recap: Legion Collegiate Academy's Victory on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Legion Collegiate Academy had won five straight games and LaKiara Alexander did her part to make it six on Saturday. The Legion Collegiate Academy Lancers strolled past the Jackson Day Mariners with points to spare, taking the game 63-49 thanks in part to Alexander, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 boards. The game was her fifth in a row with at least ten points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Amelia Williams, who posted five points and six rebounds. She has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played.

Several Mariners players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Laylah Toscano, who went 9 of 16 on her way to 21 points and seven rebounds. Courtney Ashford was another key player, going 5 of 8 on her way to 14 points.

Legion Collegiate Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 12-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.1 points per game. As for Jackson Day, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-6.

After both having extra time off, Legion Collegiate Academy and Arborbrook Christian Academy will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025. As for Jackson Day, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Wesleyan at 8:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Jackson Day's defense has only allowed 29.7 points per game this season, so Wesleyan's offense will have their work cut out for them.
