Baseball Recap: Willcox Beats Duncan for Their Third Straight Win

Willcox had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Duncan on Monday. The Cowboys put the hurt on the Wildkats with a sharp 10-2 win. The victory was familiar territory for the Cowboys, who have now won three contests in a row.

Ty Shull spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on one hit and racked up seven Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Willcox's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 4-8-1 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Jahir Reyes and Anthony Morales did most of the damage at the plate: Reyes scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Morales scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Willcox is 5-1 when Reyes posts two or more runs, but 2-8-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Asher Ward, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Willcox's win bumped their record up to 7-9-1. As for Duncan, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-3.

Willcox has already played their next game, a 12-2 loss against Benson on the 8th. As for Duncan, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 13-12 victory against Lordsburg on the 8th.
