Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Kaden Cutlip and Jackson Simmons Lead Unicoi County to Victory

Unicoi County won the last time they faced Happy Valley and things went their way on Saturday too. The Unicoi County Blue Devils were the clear victor by a 71-51 margin over the Happy Valley Warriors. Given the Blue Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while the Warriors are ranked 384th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Unicoi County was led to victory by Jackson Simmons and Kaden Cutlip. Simmons went 10 of 18 en route to 29 points in addition to five boards and three steals, while Cutlip went 5 for 12 on his way to 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That's the most steals Cutlip has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Garrett Sellars, who posted six points.

Unicoi County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-10 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points per game. As for Happy Valley, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-19.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Unicoi County will face off against Volunteer at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Unicoi County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.3 points per game this season. As for Happy Valley, they will square off against South Greene at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
