The Autauga Academy Generals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 59-22 loss at the hands of Edgewood Academy. Autauga Academy has not had much luck with Edgewood Academy recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Autauga Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Claudia DiTomasso. Despite the final result, she scored 12 points along with six rebounds. DiTomasso scored a full 54.5% of Autauga Academy's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Autauga Academy struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Edgewood Academy posted nine assists.
Edgewood Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lindsey Brown led the charge by dropping a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds. The game was Brown's 15th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Lexie Smith, who scored 18 points along with six steals.
Autauga Academy has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season. As for Edgewood Academy, they pushed their record up to 18-3 with that win, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Autauga Academy will take on Evangel Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Evangel Christian Academy is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Edgewood Academy, they will be playing at home against Lee-Scott Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Lee-Scott Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Edgewood Academy likes a good challenge.
