The Acalanes Dons fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Miramonte Matadors on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 74-66 to the Matadors. While losing is never fun, Acalanes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 470th, while Miramonte is ranked 207th).
Several Dons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gavin Dodge, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Maddox Malm, who scored 11 points along with three blocks and two steals.
It was another big night for Marcus Robinson, who shot 4-for-9 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 31 points and 11 rebounds for Miramonte. That's the first time this season that Robinson pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Quinnild, who scored 12 points.
Acalanes has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. As for Miramonte, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Acalanes will take on Ygnacio Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Ygnacio Valley has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 662 points over their last nine matches. As for Miramonte, they will be playing at home against Campolindo at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Campolindo is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
